question: what is architecture for us?
toolkit: 1 element + 1 strategy
answer: Architecture gives visual shape to the current condition of the society in which it is produced. During the 20th century architects made attempts to take on the leadership in social evolution, considering buit environment to be the key factor for determination of people’s lifestyle. In practice users turn any ideal environment into the one which in greater degree corresponds to their needs. Architecture is not art for art’s sake and architect carries out social order. He brings into physical existence the environment which society creates for itself. This is time to stop self-delusion: we do not determine the direction for social development. Our job is a tip of the iceberg, the rest of which comprises of wide diversity of processes and forces directing them. Architecture cannot change the world and has no value without its user. There is no use to oppose to what we exist for. If we really want to make a contribution for a better life of the people, we have to stop thinking of design as a crucial aspect and start coming to phisical form through the form of existence. Architecture aimed to fulfill not one’s artistic ambition but social need may offer more opportunty to stay honest to our principles.
visual form: One strategy for joining elements is used for construction of three structures of different perception. Strategy stays constant, shape may differ.
